Natural Vibrations for Meditation, Restoration and Personal Transformation

Whether your goal is personal transformation, stress relief or a spark in creativity, having the didgeridoo played up close can bring you to a deep meditative state in which the infinite is possible. Used in ceremony and healing by the aboriginal people of Australia, the didgeridoo is an ancient wind instrument rooted in primal earth-energy. The deep resonance of this instrument has been cited as an active treatment for stress relief, imbalance of the female reproductive system and insomnia. As the didgeridoo continues to bring healing and balance to many people, more and more documentation is coming to light on a regular basis. Good Vibrations vs. Bad Vibrations

Wholesome, natural food is healthier than processed, unnatural food. When we provide our bodies with high quality nourishment, we are happy, energized and balanced. The same principle is true for sound. Living in urban environments, we are surrounded by the sounds of trains, screeching brakes, sirens and other harsh, unnatural noises. These are considered to be bad vibrations as they affect the nervous system, causing stress and other forms of imbalance. The healthiest vibrations are those created naturally by the planet. These include the waves of the ocean, leaves rustling in the breeze, and the songs of birds. The didgeridoo is an instrument that is found in nature, literally an "earth instrument" that has been used in ceremony and for healing by the Australian Aboriginals for approximately 40,000 years. It creates natural vibrations that harmonize every cell in the body while facilitating deep meditative states of consciousness where one is most in touch with his or her higher self.

Testimonials

"Having the didgeridoos played in my class of 50, 60, 70 people, with Tyler on one side of the room and AJ on the other, elevates the quality of my teaching. The resonance in the room is unparalleled, and I see that it actually impels all of the practitioners in the class into a deeper experience of, not only the poses physically, but into a very direct experience of his or her own heart in a totally different way than they would without the didgeridoo. The general baseline vibration of the practice is more refined, more uplifting and more clarifying for the students. I recommend every single yoga teacher to in some way incorporate it into their teaching. I recommend that students use Tyler and AJ's CD as an accompaniment to practice of yoga and meditation. I also recommend Tyler and AJ’s personal, private sessions. They are hugely fortifying and healing and I see the unmistakable benefit very directly in people's bodies."

"The collection of melodic and primordial sounds experienced on the Didgeridoo Meditation CD has enhanced my practice immensely. Energy and sound have become powerful components of my treatment as a psychologist. The level of mind-body attunement assisted with the sounds of breath, didgeridoo, and Tibetan singing bowls provided on this CD have helped both children and adults in my practice to become more relaxed and balanced in their lives. The soothing, ancient harmonies touch the earth's rhythms in ourselves. Helping others to create a sense of well-being and harmony while reducing stress and mental chaos has come full circle from the ancient past to my current practice."

"During our session I had an experience unlike anything else I've ever had, at times entering dream states, at other times being led into the vibration and sounds in ways that were so powerful, intense, and overwhelming... difficult to describe yet an experience that is such a gift, truly."

Meditation

The earth and universe were created in balance. Beginning with the agricultural revolution, humans gradually began their journey into imbalance. This imbalance was greatly intensified during the industrial revolution. Now, in the midst of the information revolution, we have the knowledge and wisdom to personally transform ourselves back into a state of harmony while still utilizing our incredible technological achievements in a sustainable fashion.

Meditation, in its many forms, is one of the keys to this restoration of harmony. Through mediation we can improve our ability to listen to our mind, body and spirit. We can identify our desires, passions and motivations and choose a life of health and happiness. It is also in the depths of meditation that the body's natural healing abilities can best function. The vibrations of the didgeridoo facilitate meditation, helping us to attain states of harmony and balance that we may not otherwise have access to.

States of Consciousness and Brainwave Entrainment

Ranging from deep sleep to intense mental activity, various states of consciousness are experienced by humans everyday. This continuum of consciousness correlates with electrical activity in the brain; the frequency of brainwaves can be measured in cycles per second (Hz) with an electroencephalogram (EEG). These brainwave states are categorized as the following:

Beta: 12-30 Hz. Normal waking state in adults. Active thinking and planning. This is where the ego resides.

Alpha: 7-12 Hz. Reflective, relaxed state usually with closed eyes. A day dream state.

Theta: 4-7 Hz. Deep meditative state. A place of creativity and envelopment in the present. A dream state associated with REM sleep.

Delta: 0.5-4 Hz. Deep sleep. A place of regeneration and healing.

By simultaneously combining the sounds of two didgeridoos, a desired state of consciousness can be induced in the listener. For example, when one didgeridoo is played in the key of Bb (fundamental frequency of 58 Hz) and a second didgeridoo is played in the key of C (65 Hz), the difference between the frequencies is manifested as a subtle pulsing (in this case 7 Hz). The listener's dominant brainwave state will sync with this pulsation in a frequency-following response known as brainwave entrainment.

This phenomenon was recorded by Didge Project and released as their album, Didgeridoo Meditation: An Odyssey Through Consciousness. Didge Project also developed a workshop based on these principles, "The Didgeridoo and Expanded Awareness," which has been taught at Integral Yoga Institute in New York. The Chakras and Chakra Balancing

 Chakra didge project
Chakra is the Sanskrit word for wheel and can be thought of as a spinning wheel of energy around each of the body’s seven key energy centers. These energy centers, from top to bottom are:
  • 7 the crown chakra (top of the head)
  • 6 the brow chakra (third-eye)
  • 5 the throat chakra
  • 4 the heart chakra
  • 3 the solar plexus chakra
  • 2 the sacral chakra (sex organs)
  • 1 the root chakra (base of the spine)
Each chakra is associated with a certain gland and a certain type of energy in the body. For example, the brow chakra is said to pertain to the pineal gland and intuition.

Using the directional quality of the didgeridoo, the vibrations can be channeled directly onto any chakra by playing the instrument within inches of the requested area. For example, a desire for a “heart opening experience” can be addressed by placing the end of the didgeridoo inches from the heart area.

Chakras, as explained by many eastern traditions, are aligned in pairs: the root is paired with the brow, the sacrum is paired with the throat, and the solar plexus is paired with the heart. By focusing the vibrations of two didgeridoos on these “counter-chakras,” harmony is attained and energy flow is enhanced. A general chakra balancing consists of approximately ten minutes of didgeridoo vibrations directly onto each of the three chakra pairs.
