Circular Breathing

What is circular breathing?

Circular breathing is a special breathing technique used to sustain a constant tone for an extended period of time. This is accomplished by inhaling through the nose while simultaneously exhaling through the mouth.

How To Circular Breathe

1) Take a deep breath.

2) Exhale slowly through a very small opening in your mouth until you begin to run out of air.

3) Store a reservoir of air in the mouth by puffing the cheeks while continuing to exhale with the lungs.

4) Constrict the cheeks to squeeze the stored air out through the mouth in order to sustain the exhale while quickly inhaling through the nose.

5) Continue exhaling through the lungs with newly replenished air and repeat previous steps.

To practice this technique, follow the previous steps while blowing through a straw into a glass of water. Try to blow a continuous stream of bubbles. Alternatively, fill your mouth completely with water and slowly squeeze the water out with your cheeks while breathing in through your nose.
